58 Archive SB-PAF Humbucker
58 Archive SB-PAF Humbucker
The 58 Archive (formerly “Reserve”) SBPAF set was originally inspired by my time spent with friend and Guitarist Magazine contributor Bob Wootton’s own, wonderful Burst! This all original 58 is a particularly good one and specifically its bridge PAF is one of the best I’ve played.

With the above in mind I refined a set of specs referenced from the 57/58 PAFs I’ve had in for repair/rewinds in the past, aiming all the while to capture the magic of examples like that in Bob’s burst! Turns per layer, coil build/shape, internal coil start lengths, coil offsets, low carbon steel parts etc are all taken into account. The covers are reshaped in house here with direct reference to vintage examples on hand. Aged sets receive the most detailed of hand finishing steps I can offer.
Output and Character
Output and Character
Bridge: Alnico II, +/- 8.1k: Perhaps my favourite of all the bridge PAF replications I make. So much character in the midrange, just as in the original that inspired them while all the time retaining the airy, lively top end and rounded yet quick lows. Hugely responsive from the guitars controls and your picking dynamics. To this makers mind, just about the ideal PAF of any era.
Neck: Alnico III - +/- 7.4k: A very classic, refined but open neck PAF with some low end fullness, tempered with enough upper midrange to retain clarity. Lovely sweet and expressive highs that run the gamut from jazzy chordal voicings to classic rock lead soloing. The pickup was intended to balance beautifully with the bridge but it’s got so much to offer all on its own.
