SUNBEAR PICKUPS is the brain-child of me; lifelong guitar-nut Stuart Robson, with some considerable support and encouragement from my wonderful wife & some great friends.
The electric guitar has been perhaps the greatest and most consistently valued of all my varied passions and interests. Playing the guitar is for me, as it is to so many guitarists world-wide, a daily solace; something almost transcendently impactful, gratifying and relaxing.
Being so marinated in all things guitar and gear while also being somewhat technically minded, it didn’t take long for me to develop an interest in all of the key areas of what makes a great guitar so special. When you embark on that quest, you can’t go too far into that rabbit-hole without pickups becoming a key discussion-point. Like so many things in the world of the Electric Guitar, pickups are imbued with a near-mythical reverence. While enjoying the wistful nostalgia and florid language so often found in these explorations, I set about testing pickups from the very best modern makers and indeed, in some truly wonderful vintage guitars, to try to get a clear idea of the sonic-character that makes a great pickup special.
The next step, or should I say leap, was to begin understanding the internal intricacies of pickups and how each small factor combines to make the whole, indeed; it’s not one detail, it’s every detail and working to hone all these variables has become a passion in of itself. After dozens and dozens of prototypes in all the most widely used pickup styles and seeking feedback from some of the best guitar-builders and trusted players; I feel confident to offer my work. Every pickup is lovingly hand-crafted and assembled one at a time for customers who adore the Electric Guitar and are looking for a pickup to really help them express their musical voice.
