The 63 Fat AV set was born out of a desire to create a classic early 60s Alnico V set, with that low end clarity and punch this magnet choice is often associated with but without losing any of the sweet high end detail you might find in a AII or AIII based pickup. Not only that but to offer it with a choice of bridge pickup specs that run the gamut from classic to contemporary and with the option to go with flat, non-stagger poles for some extra midrange and a very even string balance.

Overall, regardless of which bridge pickup might best suit your needs, this is a very balanced set with lovely string separation and an open, rich character that recalls so many of the great Strat tones we all
love. On clean tones you get the wonderfully quacky character in positions 2/4 and pure, even response throughout. Heap on the gain and these hold together with a wonderful fullness that backs off to a real sweet, soulful tonality.

· BRIDGE OPTION ONE AV +/- 6.6K: Heavy Formvar wound and sitting at that sweetspot for output
and wind-style. Clear and characterful but without the shrill high end and all-out brashness so often associated with this position. That said, this is still a classic pickup in many ways and as such, when you pile in the gain it doesn’t become all unbalanced midrange drive or lose its essential “stratty” voice. One
of our favourites here.

. BRIDGE OPTION TWO AV +/- 7.0k: Once again, keeping with the early 60s theme, this second bridge option is Heavy Formvar wound but this time features a boosted output with a tight scatter wound coil. This spec choice gives much more midrange punch and a throatier, fuller take on a bridge
pickup in this setting. Absolutely ideal if you find almost all classic S-type bridge pickups overly spikey and strident.

· MIDDLE AV +/- 6.4k: A wonderful middle pickup that combines beautifully with its compatriots and alone stands as a great rhythm or lead choice. Just enough midrange to remain present and vocal but not so much that it becomes overbearing during cleaner chordal passages. Drive lifts that vocal quality and may have you sticking in the middle position far more than you might have done before.

· NECK AV +/- 6.4k. Quintessential Alnico V tone with that unmistakable mix of direct punch, sweetness and dynamic range that has always made this pickup, in this position so irresistibly “tonefull”. We use classic Heavy Formvar wire once again and a nice open scatter to give this pickup both a full but clear character and a highly expressive voice.
